My List
I assume everyone has their list. The bucket list. The things we want to see and do before we pass beyond the veil. The things we put off until later, as if we have all the time in the world.
A lot of my list is photography related. I suppose it’s because I’ve already accomplished some of my other goals. I’ve driven the Disney Monorail. Self-published two books. (Links below.) Done stand-up comedy. I’ve partied at Hooters with Sgt Slaughter. So a lot of what I want involves me shooting in wild places and scenarios.
Japan- like many GenX’rs I grew up fascinated by Japanese culture. I’d love to spend two weeks traveling around Japan, soaking up this rich culture and shooting in vastly different locales like Tokyo, Osaka and Hiroshima.
Cuba- there is no culture like Cuba. People living under Communist dictatorship for over sixty years, yet still resilient.
Israel- everyone has an opinion on Israel. It’s hard to know what is real and what is nonsense. I want to explore the place and the people through my lens and see for myself.
The Moab- I’m kind of late to the party on this amazing desert in Utah, but from the instant I saw it, I knew I had to make it there someday. I’m not much for camping, but I would love to stay up all night shooting the stars. Speaking of…
The Aurora Borealis- I once had the pleasure of having dinner with legendary artist Tom Grummett and his incredible wife, Nancy. The next morning, Nancy saw us and ran over just to share photos she’d taken of the night sky at their cabin home in the Canadian wilderness. She said the Northern Lights are visible all the time where she’s from. Though I suppose I could combine this one with…
Alaska- A trip to Alaska would be partially to do some wild life photography as well as landscapes. I would need a more suitable long range telephoto lens. Which would also be good for…
An African Safari- I can’t imagine I need to explain this. This would be an incredible experience.
A Space X launch- last year I met a young woman who does these. It’s probably easier to do than I think. But if anyone knows Elon Musk and could hook me up, please let me know. I’d love to take Elon’s portrait as well. Speaking of which…
Portraits of my heroes and other people I admire- pretty self explanatory. So if J. Michael Straczynski (who claims to be impossible to photograph well), Warren Ellis, Steven Wright or Dave Attell should read this, please get in touch.
A Presidential Inauguration- Jason an I were supposed to go to President Trump’s Inauguration last year, but the blizzard of ‘25 but a stop to that. Hopefully I can catch the next one.
