The Rue Bohemian

When I was a teenager, I heard about Allen Ginsberg. He was a poet, a photographer and a Communist.

As the saying goes, two out of three ain’t bad.

Aside from how cool his epic poem, Howl was, what interested me about Ginsberg was his travels. He was part of the New York Bohemian art movement and spent a lot of time traveling with his friend across the country and taking pictures. Long before I found my love of photography, I thought this sounded amazing.

I never really let go of that little dream. Me and my friends, seeing the country as I recorded the moments with my camera. We did a little of that in our 20s and less in our 30s. At the age of 41, people are mostly too busy with life, bills and children to play out my fantasies. But the poet in me can’t let go of the romance of the idea.

I’ve got a few miles left in the tank. I plan to see it through.
