Lindsay Clancy Has Exposed the Depth of Narcissism Rotting Away at Our Culture
I swore I wasn’t going to talk about the Lindsay Clancy case. The image of her murdering her children is burned into my imagination. I don’t want to think about it and frankly, this is already a national conversation.
I was trying to ignore it, but for whatever reason, this random guy’s X post set me off.
Screw this white knight nonsense.
Notice the framing of this as a gender issue. As if filicide is a product of misogyny. “Guys” just need to listen to women.
This isn’t about men versus women. It’s not Right versus Left, or Patriarchy, or any other tribal nonsense you want to wedge in there.
This issue is about people with functioning brains versus people with Main Character Syndrome.
Let’s put aside the thousands of women (and presumably some men) who consider themselves True Crime sleuths and are convinced they’re going to catch Patrick Clancy as a criminal mastermind.
The majority of the Lindsay Cult are saying she isn’t culpable because she suffered from postpartum depression or postpartum psychosis, often conflating the two. They believe that the actual people responsible are the doctors, the nurses, the psychiatric healthcare industry and Patrick Clancy. “She was trying to get help and they failed her!” That’s like saying that an alcoholic isn’t responsible for the vehicular homicide because he had been going to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
Lindsay Clancy didn’t just kill her kids. She made a plan to remove her husband so he could not stop her. Then she slowly choked the life out of 5 year old Cora, 3 year old Dawson and 8 month old Callan. She murdered them in the most brutal way possible.
Here are a few less cruel and less painful ways she could have murdered her babies.
Stabbing her own children.
Shooting her own children.
Putting her children in the car and slamming into a brick wall at 120 mph.
Blowing up the house with her children in it.
Crushing her children’s skulls with cinderblocks.
Setting up a gas leak with her children in the house.
Putting bags over her children’s head and asphyxiated them to death.
As gruesome as those murder scenarios sound, most of them would result in instant death. I mentioned the bags last because it is the closest to the method that Lindsay actually employed in the murders.
But while the bag method doesn’t result in immediate death and would be terrifying, it isn’t on the same level as what Lindsay actually did. Choking someone to death is the most personal, vindictive manner of murder that exists. Nothing comes close.
One by one, Lindsay Clancy went to Cora, Dawson and baby Callan and wrapped resistance bands around their necks. Not rope. Resistance bands. That means that she had to pull as tightly as she possibly could as the rubber stretched around her babies’ necks and choked them until the light faded from their eyes.
I don’t have the courage to find out if she did it while they were facing away or if these babies watched helplessly as the person that birthed them ripped them from this world. Imagine how afraid they must have been.
This is an act of pure evil.
I do not give a flying fuck if she had postpartum depression. “Men will never understand what it's like!” This is pure narcissistic delusion. It’s depression. The fact that it is brought on by a chemical imbalance after birth is irrelevant. There are so many people in this country who create this fiction in their minds that no one has ever experienced pain as they have. What a ridiculous idea.
You are not special.
Your pain is not special.
But that’s what the Lindsay Cult is about; women feeling sorry for themselves and going on social media to cry in front of the world. There are so many horrible women out there posting TikToks of themselves, holding their babies with the words “Same, Lindsay.”
This is a horrific implication. If you relate to a woman who choked her babies to death, your children should be taken from you.
But that’s not what they’re really implying. What they’re saying is that their life is hard and they often feel overwhelmed. As if no one besides mothers has ever felt that way. These horrible women are conflating the murder of children with dealing with stress and depression. What the fuck is wrong with you?
They’re basically erasing the actual victims, the children.
Many people have brought up the case of wrestler Chris Benoit. Chris murdered his wife and his special-needs son back in 2007. After many hours and several phone calls in an attempt to sat goodbye to his friends, Chris Benoit took his own life.
Chris Benoit was my favorite wrestler.
I remember when it happened. When his death was announced, no one knew anything. The wrestling community, myself included, were devastated. Then the truth came out about what he’d done.
I remember how guilty I felt; how I still feel. How could I be a fan of a monster like that?
I often think of Wrestlemania 20. Benoit gave a promo speech before his match for the World Heavyweight Championship. He spoke of all the people who doubted him. The ones who said he wasn’t good enough. The ones who said he didn’t deserve it.
Chris slapped his chest over and over again, screaming. “I believe in me! I BELIEVE IN ME!”
I felt his words in my chest. I knew that feeling so well. I related to him so much in that moment. I still do. And it makes me ask “what does that say about me?”
I wish these women had that level of self awareness. Sadly, not a single one does.
After Benoit’s murders, they discovered that he likely had Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. Basically he had hundreds of concussions that likely broke his brain.
While that made me feel slightly better, it didn’t excuse what he did. He murdered his family, regardless of the reasons.
I don’t doubt that Lindsay Clancy had postpartum psychosis. It seems pretty obvious that only a psychotic would do what she did. That does not make her innocent.
It does not justify the thousands of women in Massachusetts who wear pink and cheer when she is driven to court. It does not justify the million plus dollars raised on her behalf.
These aren’t women seeking justice. They’re evil people who think this is some sort of true crime soap opera.
As horrific as the murders of Cora Clancy, Dawson Clancy and Callan Clancy are, the more frightening fallout is the reveal of how selfish and immoral so many of our neighbors are.
This is a genuine problem.
Lindsay will either spend her remaining days locked away or be put to death. There will be a finality there.
But the cult created around her? There is no solution to the problem they represent.
