Casablanca, Morocco
Of the two Moroccan cities we visited Casablanca was technically the nicest. It seemed cleaner, at least. But I liked it far less than Agadir.
First of all, we got mobbed by scammers as soon as we got off the bus. One of them followed us for two blocks. Also, crossing these city streets felt like a real life game of Frogger. The highlight--- and the main reason we got off of the ship, was Rick's Cafe, the bar/restaurant from the movie Casablanca.
There was an excursion that included a guided bus tour that took you to Rick's and guaranteed seating with a meal for the low, low price of $250.
We did not do that.
The place was immaculate, but I'm glad we only got drinks. I was especially glad when I saw the plaque outside that informed us the place was built in 2004. I’d never seen the movie, but I had heard of Rick’s. I never really thought about whether it was a real place or not. Of course it wasn’t. It was a movie. This was a recreation, but an impressive one.
If you must go to Casablanca, you should at least get drinks at Rick’s.
