Funchal, Madeira

Our first stop on the Norwegian Sky was the island of Madeira. It has been called “the Hawaii of Europe” and was the wildest and most varied location we visited.

In the town of Monte, we rode toboggans down the sloping streets.

Later, we needed jackets as we went to Pico do Areiero, the highest peak of Madeira.

Our last stop was along the coast, where the Miradouro do Cristo Rei statue was located. Unfortunately, the statue of Christ faces outward towards the sea, so there was no good angles to photograph it.

Of the places I visited in Europe, Madeira stands as one of the locations I most wish i could have spent more time exploring.
