The Dead Internet Theory and Strange Newsletters.

Have you heard about the Dead Internet theory? Basically it’s the belief that the internet is now so controlled and consumed by bots, algorithms, AI and other buzz words that it is no longer a source of free information, but rather another system of control.

For a creator, the question becomes how do you create a space and an audience for yourself? Going viral is more about luck than quality of content, though those aren’t mutually exclusive.

My solution is to start a newsletter. Welcome to Strange World.

So why am I naming my newsletter Strange World? Well… frankly we live in a pretty strange world. But it’s also a reference to my favorite book of all time, Planetary, written by one of my idols, Warren Ellis. In fact, it was because of Ellis’ newsletter that I decided to start one of my own on Beehiiv.

And also, I am infamously bad at naming things. I once named a poem Dust Buster because I thought it sounded cool.

So what can you expect from my newsletter should you choose to accept it? First of all, no spam. I hope to post twice a month. But unless I have some express need to let people know about something that is going on, two is the most you should expect.

As far as content, I will be sharing any blog posts and links related to my work. Also events such as signings. And lastly I will also be sharing art and recommendations not directly related to me. I’d like to share my friends work with others. I’m a big believer in the idea that we cannot expect others to support our work if we are unwilling to do the same for those around us.

The first post is live now and available on the web.

So, please, subscribe. And if you do, remember to mark the newsletter as not being spam in your email.

Thanks to all who have supported me in the past and do so in the future. I appreciate you.
